Miss Louisiana Tech 2013 begins reign:

RUSTON — Louisiana Tech junior biology major Julianne Tippen had never competed in a Miss Tech pageant before, but she came home with the crown.
"Since the very first time I watched the Miss Tech pageant during my freshman year, I knew I wanted to compete one day," said Tippen, who was crowned earlier this month. "It has been my dream for the past two years to represent my university as Miss Tech, and I am honored that my dream has been fulfilled."
The West Monroe native said it was a surreal experience to be named Miss Tech 2013, but she has plans for the coming year.
"My goal for the next year is to hopefully bring the Miss Louisiana crown back to Louisiana Tech for the second year in a row," she said. "I also hope to make as many appearances as possible and fulfill any obligation asked of me as Miss Louisiana Tech."
Tippen also won the swimsuit competition. Meagan Lee, a junior speech major from Rayville, was first runner up, and Molly Humphries, a sophomore nursing major from Ruston, received second runner up, Miss Congeniality and the talent award. Other winners were:
» Third runner up: Serena Mendoza, a senior political science major from Lafayette;
» Fourth runner up: Elisa Aviles, a senior history major from Ruston;
» Non-finalist talent award: Olivia Smith, a freshmen elementary education major from Bossier City;
» Community Service Award: Jordan Lindsey, a psychology doctoral student from Farmington Hills, Mich.;
